About Mrs. Wallace
Mount Sinai is a place I know well. I grew up on North Country Road, in a farmhouse at the entrance to the school road. Back then, we could walk to Randall's Farm for provisions, there was a cornfield where the high school now stands, 25A was a two-lane road, and we would have church picnics at the Chandler Estate. When my dad wanted to take us to Cedar Beach, he would let my brother and me ride on top of the wheel wells in the bed of his pick-up truck. Obviously, a lot has changed!
After graduating from Port Jeff High School, I earned my bachelor's degree at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Charleston is an incredibly charming, beautiful and unique city, and it still holds a special place in my heart. I returned home to New York to complete my master's at SUNY Stony Brook. I am now in my twenty-sixth year as a teacher at Mount Sinai. It has been a wonderful experience having some of my former teachers as colleagues, and being able to teach the children of my former schoolmates who still live in the school district.
Presently, I live in a very quiet, small town on the South Shore with my husband, our twelve-year-old daughter Evangeline, and our two pets: a mini lop rabbit named Nutmeg and a yellow lab named Abel. I love all kinds of animals, and I volunteer as a wildlife rescue transporter in my spare time. We love to travel, but in the summer we prefer to stay close to home: riding bikes, spending the day at the ocean, walking to our nearby beach on Moriches Bay to watch the sunrise and sunset, feed the swans, flip horseshoe crabs, collect shells, throw rocks, and let the dog go for a swim. I feel fortunate to have found a small piece of paradise here on Long Island.
The photograph above was taken at the remains of Tintagel Castle (King Arthur's Castle) in Cornwall, England. This was one of many memories from a very magical trip!
